Wembley actually stunk of weed on Sunday night, but it seems those in charge of the safe running of the Euro 2020 final had been on it long before kick-off.
Who and/or what was to blame for the booze-drenched, drug-addled, anti-social, law-breaking, fist-throwing, head-kicking jamboree that was supposed to be a glittering showpiece of summer sport?
Police inquiries, Football Association inquiries, UEFA inquiries, will all give us their answers in due course.
They are already pointing fingers at one another.
But as the recriminations multiply – and they are serious recriminations – let’s get one thing absolutely straight.
The people to blame were the ones who assaulted stewards, who terrif ied children, who used violence to bunk in, who snorted cocaine in the Wembley gangways, who threw bottles, who urinated in the street, who robbed people, who scared the wits out of disabled fans.
