But the former Rangers hero insists he has no regrets - and has vowed to return to the game after a short break while revealing he hopes it's at Ibrox one day, no matter the capacity.

Ferguson handed in his notice just eight months after leaving Kelty to take over at the Indodrill.

He had targeted taking Alloa back to the Championship after their relegation last season.

But a poor run of results have left the Wasps teetering above the drop zone and he is adamant his own high standards were the reason behind his decision to stand down.

Alloa have won just one of their last 13 League One games and Saturday's 3-1 defeat to bottom club East Fife leaves them a point above the relegation play-off spot where Peterhead have two games in hand.
