You're Talking A Load Of Bails

Micheal Martin has shockingly claimed that Ireland never bailed out the banks.

The Taoiseach got in a blazing row in the Dail with People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett after his unbelievable attempt to rewrite history.

In 2010, Irish banks were given upwards of €64billion in State liquidity, borrowed from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.

The figure – €32,000 for every man, woman and child – will continue to be paid for generations to come.

Mr Martin shocked the Opposition benches yesterday when he denied what took place was a bailout.

He told the Dail: “The banks were not bailed out. Shareholders in the banks were not bailed out.

“The State took equity. The share-holders were not bailed out. That is not a popular thing to say, but it is a fact.”
