Afi Mulls Foreign Camp For Jumpers

Coach Bedrosian expected take athletes to South Africa for training in February

It seems that the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is unwilling to buck the trend of sending athletes for training abroad, as foreign jump coach Bedros Bedrosian is expected to take long and triple jumpers to South Africa for training next month.

Last year, many athletes, primarily those in contention for this year’s Tokyo Olympics participation, were mostly sent to train abroad in preparation before the World Championships.

However, AFI’s efforts were found wanting as athletes were often kept at camps devoid of proper medical facilities, which saw prominent stars like Rajiv Arokia, Hima Das and Jinson Johnson return home with untreated injuries.

In October, Rajiv had told MAIL TODAY that his foot injury remained untreated because physios were unable to trace the actual problem, as he couldn’t get an X-ray of his foot done.
