Zomato Fires 500 As Virus Eats Into Biz

Slashes salaries of rest by up to 50%

Restaurant discovery and food delivery startup Zomato on Friday said it will be firing 13 percent of its staff, or 520 employees, as the over 50-day long lockdown enforced due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has battered brick-and-mortar as well as online food businesses.

“Multiple aspects of the company's business have changed dramatically over the last couple of months and many of these changes are expected to be permanent. While we continue to build a more focussed Zomato ,we do not foresee having enough work for all our employees,” said CEO Deepinder Goyal in a blog post.
