One day, traffic disappeared when the enhanced community quarantine, and then later the modified ECQ was enforced all over Luzon to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In the past two and a half months, there were not only less vehicles, the roads were almost empty.
I was one of the few who did not stay home while all media platforms, government officials, church leaders and well-meaning relatives told me to stay home to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As a journalist, there was no question if I should stay home; duty called.
Three days a week, and sometimes four, I would drive from my house to the office 17 kilometer’s away.
“Eerie” is the word I always used to describe the feeling of driving home early evening. By 7, the streets are empty of people and cars. And the thought of why people are not out on the streets defines the seriousness of the situation.
