Currently, the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly across the city, with 88% of the cases in Plymouth being accounted for by the Omicron variant.
Dr Ruth Harrell said rising rates of Covid19 in the city have led directly to higher numbers of patients in hospital and increased pressure on the NHS.
The city’s Director of Public Health also added that the booster jab offers ‘good protection against serious disease’ and urged the people of Plymouth to remain vigilant to symptoms of the virus.
Also, as per government guidance, Dr Harrell urged anyone who is able to do so to work from home.
