Six-time legislator Dilip Sopal to join Shiv Sena tomorrow, more names doing the rounds
The exodus from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) continued on Monday with Dilip Sopal, the party’s sitting legislator from Barshi, in Solapur district, formally announcing his decision to quit.
Mr. Sopal, a six-time legislator and a political stalwart from Solapur, is expected to join the Shiv Sena in the presence of Uddhav Thackeray at a function at Matoshree in Mumbai on Wednesday. His decision comes a month after NCP president Sharad Pawar had refuted all talk of Mr. Sopal’s exit.
“I have held meetings with my supporters a week ago…and they whole-heartedly back my decision to join Shiv Sena. I will be submitting my resignation as MLA to the Assembly speaker tomorrow,” Mr. Sopal said in Solapur.
