Minister warns of legal action against complainants
Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar on Sunday threatened to take legal action against several women journalists who have accused him of sexual harassment at two newspapers where he had been editor. His statement seemed to suggest that calls for his resignation were not going to be entertained, at least in the immediate future, by the Union government.
In a detailed statement, Mr. Akbar, who returned on Sunday morning from Africa where he had been leading an Indian delegation, said, “Accusation without evidence has become a viral fever among some sections. Whatever be the case, now that I have returned, my lawyers will go into these wild and baseless allegations to decide our future course of legal action.”
“The accusations of misconduct made against me are false and fabricated, spiced up by innuendo and malice. I could not reply earlier as I was on an official tour abroad,” he said.
