Kerala on Monday reported an alarming 28 new cases of coronavirus infection, with the biggest number, 19, coming from Kasaragod district, which is the worst-affected in the state. While the Centre had recommended 10 districts to be put under lockdown on Sunday, the state government went a step ahead and shut down the entire state. With Maharashtra reporting a big spike and its total count touching 97, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray brought the entire state under curfew.
While 12 new cases were reported in Gujarat, Karnataka had seven and Telangana 3.
However, the Union health ministry’s tally of active cases across India stood at 424.
Two more deaths were reported on Monday, one each in Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal (see box), taking the total fatalities to nine.
