An unprecedented silence was witnessed in the city while an undeclared curfew prevails in the Muslim-dominated areas of Prayagraj on Sunday in the wake of the brazen murder of mafia don Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf while in police custody near Colvin hospital late Saturday night. Internet facilities have been snapped in the Sangam city since last night and the UP government has already sounded high alert in the entire state, clamping prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code across the state and sprucing up security measures at religious places and for VVIPS.
The state government has constituted a 3-member judicial commission to investigate the murders. The bodies of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were buried at the KasariMasari cemetery in Prayagraj late Sunday evening.
