New Delhi: Four Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorists arrested in the aftermath of the Batla House encounter were among those awarded death sentence on Friday in the Ahmedabad serial bombings of 2008. Also, four others convicted were involved in the Delhi serial bombings conspiracy that year.
The four convicts arrested after the Batla House encounter were Mohammed Saif, Zeeshan Ahmad, Zia ur Rehman and Mohammed Shakeel. Those being investigated by Delhi Police for the bombings were Qayamuddin, Mohammad Akbar, Mohammad Mubin and Mohammad Arif.
According to the chargesheets filed by police in the Batla House encounter and bombings of 2008, 12 terrorists had travelled to Ahmedabad to participate in the serial blasts.
“Two others, Atif Ameen and Mohammed Sajid (Bada), were killed in the Batla House encounter, while four others — Salman, Ariz Khan, Arif and Saifur Rehman — were arrested later. Their trial is yet to conclude. Two others, Mirza Shadab Baig and Mohammed Khalid, are still wanted,” said an anti-terror unit officer.
