The ever-increasing population has contributed to the high volume of waste around the world. While there are several mechanisms deployed by nations to counter the perils of waste, traditional disposal methods seem to be fading into oblivion, considering the increasing scale of waste around the world.
SUSTAINABLE GOALS
Waste management is proving to be a boon and is offering a new landscape of opportunities to not only all stakeholders involved, but also is seen as a winwin situation for both, humanity and the planet. The misconceptions about waste management seem to be ebbing as conversations are happening all over. Waste management has become an integral part of sustainable goals and has led to inventing creative solutions that can benefit the planet.
Mankind currently produces two billion tons of waste per year, and global waste is on track to grow 70 per cent by 2050. Our global economy operating in an open-loop system with methane leaking landfills and trash polluting our oceans is antithetical to the natural world. There is no waste in nature. Natural ecosystems operate in cycles with the waste from one organism providing nutrients for the other, says Ibrahim AlHusseini, founder and managing partner of FullCycle, a firm that invests in companies that harness new technology to turn solid waste into clean energy and green fuel.
