New Delhi: The period between October 15, 2021 and February 15, 2022 saw 19 ‘severe’ days — same as the corresponding period in 2020-21 and two more than 17 in 2019-20. However, this year also witnessed one ‘good’ day, unlike the past two seasons that saw none. There were four ‘satisfactory’ days too, compared to just one in 2019-20 and none last season.
“This season saw prolonged episodes of ‘severe’ days and it was not scattered like the past years. Prolonged episodes of severe air quality are more harmful to health,” said Gufran Beig, founder project director, SAFAR.
He added, “This season, excess rainfall was recorded in October and January while intermittent rain was witnessed throughout. The season might have seen more ‘severe’ days but rain came to the rescue and helped in settling down pollutants and improving the air quality.”
