The development came a day after US President Joe Biden urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to seek de-escalation, and amid mediation bids by Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations. A Hamas official told Reuters the ceasefire would be “mutual and simultaneous”.
