New Delhi: Sources said the power demand in Delhi has been scaling new heights and is likely to cross 8,200 MW this year. The city had registered its highest ever peak power demand in 2019, when it touched 7,409 MW.
This is the first time since 2019 that the city’s peak power demand in April has crossed 5,000 MW. In April 2019, Delhi’s electricity demand had touched 5,664 MW. The Covidinduced lockdowns during the peak summer months of 2020 and 2021 had kept it below the 5,000 MW mark.
With air conditioners running at full throttle in all commercial and residential buildings, sources said the electricity demand this year has increased by 22% since April 1 and 35% since March 1.
