Appearing for Zubair, already arrested by Delhi Police in a case relating to his alleged ‘objectionable tweet’ against a Hindu deity in 2018, senior advocate Colin Gonsalves requested a bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and J K Maheshwari for urgent listing of the petition on Thursday itself citing numerous death threats to his client because of his acclaimed role in busting fake news.
Gonsalves said the Allahabad HC had on June 10 rejected his petition seeking anticipatory bail, quashing of the FIR and compensation for harassment on the ground that the plea was premature as investigations are at nascent stage. Zubair had requested the HC for grant of anticipatory bail, quashing of the FIR and compensation for harassment and sufferings because of the lodging of the FIR.
