Rohit Sharma is the flavour of the season. The Mumbai Indians’ skipper has been in the news ever since he suffered an injury and was ignored for the tour of Australia. But in a not-so-subtle message to all concerned, Rohit returned to lead the Mumbai Indians in a crunch match for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
It made no difference to the Sunrisers. They had a one-point agenda at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday: win and take the third spot in the playoff table. And they turned on the style. The 10-wicket win not only knocked Kolkata Knight Riders out of the tournament, but the manner in which they outplayed a formidable opposition should boost their confidence ahead of the Eliminator against RCB.
The Sunrisers had done it before in 2016 when they won three in a row and went on to win the title. Their opening duo of skipper David Warner (85; 58b, 4x10, 6x1) and Wriddhiman Saha (58; 45b, 7x4, 6x1) wasted little time in complementing the good work of their bowlers, who restricted MI to 149/8.
