One such issue is dating anxiety. “Basically, it is when dating and anxiety collide together. If you read about attachment style, which is actually a science, a lot of people have what we call anxious attachment style. There’s a lot of anxiety around relationships, there’s a lot of anxiety around the feeling of being abandoned or rejected. When one starts thinking about meeting someone, the negative belief system starts kicking in about ‘what if I’m not liked’ or ‘what if something goes wrong’ or ‘what if I get rejected,” explains psychotherapist Dr Alaokika Bharwani.

REASONS FOR DATING ANXIETY

To start understanding dating anxiety, it is important that we look at the places it can stem from. It’s basically low self-worth or the way one views oneself, which manifests itself when one thinks either about being vulnerable or putting oneself out there. A lot of times when someone thinks about wanting to date, either past trauma can come back or the sense of how they will be viewed by others.
