Fears Over 5G Rational, But Not Based On Scientific Fact: Experts

No Proof That 5G Radiation Has Increased Hospitalisation

Actor Juhi Chawla has approached Delhi high court against the proposed setting up of 5G wireless networks, raising concerns related to radiation impact on citizens, animals, flora and fauna.

Experts, however, assure that fear of 5G, while rational, is not based on scientific fact. “People have been using smartphones for years and we don’t see evidence that this radiation has caused a noticeable increase in diseases or hospitalisations due to usage,” said David Starobinski, a professor in the Boston University’s department of electrical and computer engineering. While exposure to high-power radiation can be harmful to health, Starobinski points to checks on radiation from communication technologies.

“Regulators have set limits on the radiation power of 5G devices, though additional safety studies may still be warranted,” he said.
