Rising cost of daily essentials wrecks household budgets

Price rise is a burden Mumbaikars have lived with for years. But the scale and pace -- at which the cost of basic essentials has increased in the past few weeks and months is unprecedented.

Mumbai:Families are struggling to cope with spiralling rates of edible oil, LPG, packaged goods and household essentials.

The untamed spiral in fuel rates has increased transportation costs, leading to a domino effect on prices of all items. This, coupled with reduced incomes and economic losses incurred during the lockdown, have snowballed into food inflation that has eroded household budgets.
