Teachers’ Day is a momentous occasion to show our gratitude and saluting our teachers for going beyond the call of duty to educate students. The last year and a half have not been easy for the teaching community. Like everyone else, school owners and teachers were not prepared for the pandemic and the indefinite closure of schools forced them to almost overnight switch from offline to online teaching. Teachers have had to deal with plenty of out-of-syllabus issues that stretched from managing their homes and their children to dedicating time and energy to educate young students in virtual classrooms. But the schools had their backs. School management helped the teachers make a smooth transition from physical classrooms to remote learning every step of the way.
In the past several months, we have heard many heroic stories of how school owners and teachers put their academic responsibilities above their personal interests. They continued to teach with diligence in spite of the lack of resources, in spite of salary reductions, the reluctance of parents to pay their children’s fees and poor technology infrastructure in non-urban centres.
