In today’s times when one can only trust what is made by themselves and not procured from outside, mums are extra careful about what goes into the hands of their li’l ones. But caution doesn’t necessarily have to mean depriving them of the fun and learning we grew up with – even more so in these trying times. We need to go that extra mile to do the best for our children from the safety of our homes.
Children have porous brains as they assimilate everything that comes their way. With schooling at home, the onus is on parents to make sure learning continues, and is both fun and safe. This throws light on the Montessori method of learning, that is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. A Montessori toy is one that stimulates learning by encouraging kids to experiment. It should be a toy that kids can hold and touch, as learning to mould objects is key in helping children develop their fine motor skills.
