Research the Location

Behind every successful photography session, the pros always put in an ample amount of research. And so should you. To begin with, research the location first. Some landscapes such as hills and waterfalls, look the best in rain. Monsoon brings out the vibrancy in green; that’s the reason the lush foliage of the trees, the grass on the hills as well as the moss on the rocks by the waterfall looks so lively during the rains.

When you research the location, try and find out about all interesting aspects of the place. For example, find out if any waterfalls or ponds are formed during the monsoon there. Figure out if there is any water body in the vicinity. Read about the flora and fauna present. The more details you know, the better you would be able to plan for your shoot, carry the gear you need and even compose your pictures beforehand. Case in point, if you know there is a waterfall at the location, then you can carry your tripod for clicking its pictures at slow shutter speed.

Check the Weather Forecast

Monsoons might be unpredictable however it always off to be prepared! Before you leave for a shoot in the rains, make it a point to check the weather forecast. Find out how heavy the rain is going to be, how long you can expect the rainfall for, whether it will be cloudy or not, is it going to be accompanied by a storm and other such important information.

Knowing the weather will help you in planning the time for your shoot. Moreover, you can also use the information to plan the kind of shots you want to click. For instance, knowing the weather conditions would help if you want to shoot pictures of the forest with mist hanging around the top of the trees.
