Look, Body and Feel
In terms of looks, body and feel. The lens is similar to its predecessor in terms of weight and comes in at 540g, which is 10g lesser than the previous model. But what is the most important thing is, that it really comes with some useful features. And this is where the we feel that Tamron has made some major strides in terms of design. If you remember the other lenses that they have then they usually tend to have only the lens lock button on them.
Lens function customisation
For instance, the Lens function customisation with the new 'Tamron Lens Utility' software. So this is a software that allows the lens to be customised or updated via connecting it to the computer and can be downloaded from Tamron website. This means that you don't have to work through it via a camera, although that option is also available. It also allows you to adjust functionalities that you might like.
Focus Set Button
The biggest changes in design is the introduction of the focus lock button which was missing from the older version. This allows you to assign a function to the focus set button on the lens. The focus set button can also be customised to set A-B focus points via the software which is great to use to while shooting video to move focus from point A to point B with just one button. It can also be customised via Tamron Utility Software for other camera purpose along with the time for focussing in an out also customised.
The lens also comes with the 67mm filter diameter as the most recent Tamron lenses. And just like the previous version it comes with a weather sealing and rubber seal around the mount. It can resist the elements and has a fluorine coating that repels dust, water, oil, and dirt.
