It was a very auspicious day and the streets wore a festive look. Yes, it was Ganesh Chathurthi. Wherever I turned, I only saw Ganesha's idol. Platforms on either side of the street were lined up with the clay statues of the elephant God, Ganesha. The vendors were busy stuffing the mould with clay and one more and one more and one more… Ganesha came out! They all looked so very similar. The young and the old were all on the streets buying flowers, fruits and umbrella(mini) for the Lord and all the puja items needed along with the idol for the festival. People were carrying the clay idol of Lord Ganesha with a lot of devotion and care. I too bought an idol that appealed to me…

Smt. Revathi Ramachandran - Director Of Kalakshetra Foundation
Dancer, choreographer and teacher of Bharatanatyam, Smt. Revathi Ramachandran's repertoire has taken her to stages PAN India, Europe and America. She is the only exponent of 'Sudha Nrittam', an ancient temple dance revived by her Guru Mangudi Dorairaja Iyer. She has been the recipient of many awards and accolades including the prestigious Kalaimamani award.Apart from her cultural achievements, this master's degree holder in Economics, has also captained the Tamil Nadu Women's' Basketball team in early 80s. Here she shares her thoughts with our readers through this interview.
