MOHAMED Elyounoussi has wasted no time in making an impact at his new club, and Celtic fans may well have plenty more to be excited about given the Norwegian winger’s assertion that he has yet to hit the standards he knows he’s capable of.

Elyounoussi only signed a couple of days before the first Glasgow derby of the season at Ibrox and he watched as his new team-mates dismantled the home side to secure a convincing 2-0 win.

That game came too soon for Elyounoussi to be involved in, and the international break meant he would have to wait longer still to pull on the jersey for the first time. The delay helped him settle into to his new surroundings, though, and it looked to have paid off given the impressive debut he had.

The return of Premiership action saw Celtic travel to New Douglas Park to face Hamilton Accies in the first fixture back and Neil Lennon’s side started the game with the same tempo and ruthless attacking intent that they had shown in the first four fixtures of the league campaign.

James Forrest put Celtic in front inside four minutes with his seventh goal of the season. Forrest’s goal highlighted his exceptional start to the season, and he had Elyounoussi to thank for helping him continue his run of goals.

His new team-mate found his rhythm in Celtic’s attacking flow right away as he ran on to Odsonne Edouard’s clever flick on, got in front of his marker and drilled a perfect pass across the six-yard box for Forrest to knock in.

In addition to his assist, Elyounoussi came close to scoring himself, but his two well-struck efforts were blocked by the walled defence inside a packed Hamilton penalty box.

Reflecting on his first game for Celtic, Elyounoussi described a feeling of pride in playing for the club and was delighted get the win in difficult conditions.
