Highest ODI individual score of the top-eight teams
Cricket Today|April 17, 2020
Matches are made interesting when there is a run-fest, especially in ODIs. In a test match, you may still like a classic bat and ball battle, where the batsman ducks when the bowler throws a bouncer or when an outswinger leaves a batsman all hands down. But when it comes to the shorter formats, all that people want to see is the ball going to the boundary. In this piece, we are going to tell the stories of all the highest individual scores of the top-8 ranked nations in ODIs. According to the International Cricket Council, the top eight teams in the current ranking cycle are England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

8 SANATH JAYASURIYA(SRI LANKA)189 VS. INDIA

Jayasuriya scored 189 off just 161 balls at a time when even run-a-ball was considered to be a blistering inning. It was the final of Triangular series in UAE’s Sharjah and India had their hopes high with Sri Lanka reeling at 116-4 in almost 30 overs. But the Lankan captain had other plans. He settled down with Russel Arnold as the pair put on 166 runs for the fifth wicket and took Sri Lanka to 299. India failed miserably and was bundled out for its lowest ever total of 54 runs. In that innings, Jayasuriya hit 21 fours and four sixes. He hit the last 89 runs in just 43 deliveries and scored the highest individual score for Sri Lanka.

7.LITON DAS(BANGLADESH)-176 VS. ZIMBABWE

Liton Das’ innings is the most recent in the list as the man scored 176 against Zimbabwe. In a rain infested match, Bangladesh looked in cruise control mode, as the openers piled up a record 292 runs stand, the highest partnership for Bangladesh for any wicket. He reached the milestone of 176, going past the previous record of 158 held by his opening partner Tamim Iqbal, who watched on from the non-striker’s end. His innings of 176 in 143 balls was laced with 16 fours and 8 sixes. Bangladesh put up a mammoth 322 runs in 43 overs and won the match comfortably.
