Troubled testing, but Spaniard shows pace
Fernando Alonso is likely to use this month’s Daytona 24 Hours as a warm-up for a potential attack on the Le Mans 24 Hours after admitting fighting for victory in America would be a long shot after testing last week.
The two-time F1 world champion got his first taste of the United Autosports-run Ligier JS P217 during the ‘Roar before the 24’ official test at Daytona. The test gave Alonso his first feel for an LMP2 car, and his first chance to work alongside his teenage teammates, Lando Norris and Phil Hanson [both 18 years old].
