THE FOUR GROUSETIERS

The Rough Rovers get the season off to a glorious start with a walked-up grouse day in Cumbria that provides some truly memorable moments
ROUGH ROVERS
THE FOUR GROUSETIERS

Occasionally, last-minute spontaneous decisions can reap huge rewards. I always encourage my kids to say ‘yes’ to opportunities that are offered (as long as they are safe and legal, of course). In September’s grouse-themed issue, I mentioned I had been contacted by a moor in Cumbria and offered some traditional walked up grouse days. I always like to visit any shoot before adding it to the Rough Rovers calendar, just so I can see the ground and meet those involved in running the day. We have many members who are keen to experience grouse shooting for the first time but who do not necessarily have pockets deep enough to take the majority of days on offer, especially early in the season.

Cumbria is a long way to go for a ‘look-see’ so I decided to book a 10 brace walked-up day on 21 August and had no problem finding three other Guns to make up the team to test this new moor, all for the good of the Rough Rovers.
