From Ronaldo’s touching gesture to the introduction of the much anticipated Video Assistant Referee technology, the FIFA Confederations Cup is as lively as ever. Here are some NOTABLE INCIDENTS from the tournament.
After almost 90 minutes of exhilarating display of football between Mexico and New Zealand, the players from either side decided to indulge in a contest of pushing and shoving. Mexico skipper Diego Reyes tugged at Michael Boxall’s shirt, who then lunged at Hector Herrera. New Zealand’s Ryan Thomas also got involved as an ugly brawl sprawled out. All the players and the match officials came together to ease the tension among the imprudent men. The referee called for an effective use of VAR to punish the villains before resuming the game. Mexico went on to win 2-1.
