YORKSHIRE return to action in the County Championship against Notts at Scarborough today, arguably with much relief after their weak campaign so far in the Vitality Blast.
Realistically, it’s going to take a miracle or two for Yorkshire to qualify for the quarter-finals next month having fallen to the bottom of their group following a thrashing by Derbyshire this week – a result that coach Andrew Gale, described as “one of our worst”.
Yorkshire’s recent record in one-day competitions is mediocre to say the least for a county of its stature – no trophy since 2002 and only one appearance in the T20 final, losing to Hampshire in 2012 Historically, the priority has been to win the County Championship – 34 outright titles since 1867 – and as Gale suggests, this attitude persists, but agrees success in one-day cricket is also essential.
