SAM Curran announced himself on the world stage with a brilliant three-wicket burst that threatened to blow India away on day two of this first Test before a Virat Kohli century kept an absorbing contest in the balance.
Curran struck three times in eight balls on the second morning to remove Murali Vijay, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan before trapping Hardik Pandya lbw in the afternoon session.
It threatened to hand England a healthy first-innings lead but India captain Kohli had other ideas, smashing a quite brilliant 149 to reduce the midway deficit to just 13 runs as India made 274 in reply to England’s total of 287.
Curran’s place was being questioned before this Test with fears his lack of pace and experience would be shown up against the world’s number one-ranked Test team.
