Billy Root is loving life in Cardiff and excited at what his new countyGlamorgan can achieve this season.
Root joined Glamorgan from Nottinghamshire during the winter in search of more regular first-team cricket. He has been impressed with the strength of the squad at Sophia Gardens and is tipping the county to turn things around quickly after a disappointing 2018 when they finished bottom of Division Two.
“It’s an exciting time,” Root told The Cricket Paper. “We’ve got a few lads away at the minute who are playing associate comps, so they’re getting some cricket which is always nice to see.
“We’ve got some really good young players as well. So hopefully that balance between exciting young lads and the experienced lads that have done it year after year, could be something quite exciting this year.
Sheffield-born Root, 26, has been training hard during pre-season and settling in well to life in Cardiff: “The time that I’ve had here so far has been great. The lads made me feel really welcome. They’ve been great to be around, so it’s looking good. I’m just excited for the season to start now.”
Root averages more than 30 with the bat across all three formats but had found opportunities limited at Trent Bridge, prompting his decision to move.
