THE STINGING pain of a shock relegation from Division One is still felt at Lancashire – and now Glen Chapple’s side are coiled and ready to pounce in search of redemption.
The Red Rose county find themselves in the second tier of English cricket for the third time in seven seasons, a grim reality for supporters of the fourth-most successful side in County Championship history but one that the club’s players are determined to put right.
They have recruited well, bringing in Australian duo Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns to add experience to an otherwise youthful squad with former South African international Dane Vilas as captain.
Vilas’ appointment follows the resignation of current IPL star Liam Livingstone, who chose to relinquish his role as skipper after just one season and a paltry return of 336 runs in 10 Championship matches.
The mood around Emirates Old Trafford is buoyant, however.
