TANGUY NDOMBELE V ASTON VILLA (H) PREMIER LEAGUE 10 AUGUST, 2019
Having signed from Lyon prior to the start of the season, Tanguy Ndombele marked his competitive debut for us in style with a memorable strike against Aston Villa. After Villains goalkeeper Tom Heaton made a fantastic reaction save from Davinson Sanchez, Harry Kane collected the loose ball and laid it into the path of Lucas Moura. In turn, Lucas slid a pass to Ndombele, who hit a first-time shot with the side of his right foot into the bottom corner of the Villa goal from just outside the penalty area.
The Frenchman’s 73rd–minute leveller – after we had fallen behind to a first-half strike from John McGinn – was followed by a brace from Kane as we won 3-1 on the opening weekend of the season.
ERIK LAMELA V MANCHESTER CITY (A) PREMIER LEAGUE 17 AUGUST, 2019
Three minutes after Raheem Sterling had given Manchester City the lead during our August trip to the Etihad Stadium, Erik Lamela scored a 23rdminute equaliser against the reigning Premier League champions. Collecting a pass from Tanguy Ndombele, the Argentine moved forward with the ball. With runners either side of him, Lamela appeared to take City goalkeeper Ederson by surprise as he guided a right footed shot past him from the edge of the ‘D’. Sergio Aguero put the home side back in front 10 minutes before half-time while substitute Lucas Moura levelled for us in the second half.
