Carving Bowl Turns W/ Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Josh Grant
While you sit at home on a Saturday night in awe of these top Supercross riders’ ability to carve these enormous bowl corners, have you ever thought, “Man, that must feel awesome!” Us, too, and although none of the staff here at TransWorld Motocross will ever compete at the professional Supercross level, we all often encounter corners at various outdoor tracks that are similar to what we’re watching the top guys carve on a regular basis. Face it: To be a great racer you need to excel at all types of terrain and all disciplines of riding, with corners being the most important.
The basic design of a bowl corner gives us a chance to go faster around that length of track—it’s a matter of physics. Look at NASCAR: If the entire track were flat, you wouldn’t see near the same speeds. On a motocross track, a banked or bowl corner can be your friend in multiple ways: higher speed, more traction, passing options, and line choice, to name a few. How do you elevate your corner game when the angles are in your favor? We gave Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Josh Grant a call, and he was nice enough to give us a few tips on how to go slot-car fast around a bowl corner.
