Tight end might be top pick

Washington could pick sixth in the 2021 NFL Draft. It could select 19th or somewhere in between with three games remaining.

Makes it easy for mock drafting... not.

Washington might win the NFC East at even 6-10, which means it will draft after all the non-playoff teams regardless of record. And, the more Washington wins in the postseason the later it will pick. Theoretically, Washington could win the Super Bowl at 6-10 and pick 32nd.

That bit of insanity aside, Washington is picking in the top 10 if not winning the division, maybe as low as seven. That means no top quarterback like Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence or Ohio State’s Justin Fields, but Washington could snag North Dakota State’s Trey Lance.

Now, 2020 is one awful year for assessing college players because many teams are playing only partial schedules and North Dakota State played exactly one game. There’s even more uncertainty than usual over players and taking a quarterback off one game is even more of a gamble than usual. Basically, teams will have to go back to 2019 to analyze Lance. It was his only college season and solid one, but teams will really scrutinize his workouts and NFL Combine if the latter happens. Given the ongoing pandemic, no decision has been made about the Combine. Without it, teams should pass on Lance in the first round. Just too much risk.
