John Wick Hex
Official Xbox Magazine|September 2019

It’s not about what game you made, it’s who you made your game about…

John Wick Hex

When it comes to making a game adaptation of the most intense action movie series around, you need a hands-on approach. How hands-on? Well, maybe start by getting a room full of expert martial artists to hurl your lead developer around.

“The ‘push’ move in the game, that’s their move,” says Mike Bithell, the aforementioned creative lead, referring to the crack stunt team who help portray Wick’s deadly feats in the films. “They created that move for this game. They used me as a prop, pushing me around the gym trying to work that out!”

It’s just one move in your arsenal as you step into Keanu Reeves’ impeccably shiny shoes, to be deployed with cerebral precision. The clever twist of Hex is that it’s not a shooter or a brawler – it’s a strategy game. You’re not just controlling John Wick’s fists, you’re inside his head, making all his split-second tactical decisions, choosing the perfect moments for every reload, parry, and takedown. But unlike the Boogeyman himself, you’ve got all the time in the world to plan your attack.
