Multitalented media personality Ntando Duma (22) has been working hard to ensure that her career grows at a remarkable pace. She chats to us about her progress, grabbing opportunities and building her daughter’s brand.
Armed with a bold look, a lively personality and the determination to see her name up in lights, Ntando has tirelessly worked her way into becoming a celebrated and loved star. To think that a few years ago she was working as a sales assistant in the clothing retail sector earning R840 a month, is unbelievable!
IN THE BEGINNING…
Growing up in Orange Farm in the south-west of Johannesburg, Ntando could not help but notice the poverty that surrounded her. This made her want to change the cycle. “I grew up watching people struggling to survive, and I didn’t want to live that way,” she shares. She watched her single mother and grandmother work hard to provide for her and her two sisters. This fuelled her desire to have a financially fulfilling career. Through hard work and determination, her childhood dream is now a reality. “Being on the cover of BONA is a dream come true because I worked hard to get where I am now,” says Ntando.
BIG BREAK
Ntando had always wanted to be on TV. At 13, she started attending auditions for children’s shows. But, she was constantly rejected. At 18, just when she was about to give up, she was finally hired to present the youth programme Craz-e (now Craze World Live) on e.tv. Since then, her life has never been the same again. “One minute I was stuck in a job that I hated, and the next I had my dream job!” A few days after signing her contract, the daunting task of presenting a live show with no experience commenced.
