South Africa has an education system that has been failing spectacularly due to being set up to serve a tiny minority, but the country also has a booming tech industry – an open door for a new wave of business leaders in South Africa. A young developer can break into this industry o‰ the strength of their code portfolio without the need for expensive and lengthy university qualifications. I set out to make world-class tech education available to young South Africans so that we can be creators and not just consumers of technology – and have an influence over the technology driving global innovation.
