Jourdan Dunn What Is Love?
Emirates Woman|February 2019

With almost 13 years of modelling under her belt, and two ‘Model of the Year’ award wins from The British Fashion Awards, Jourdan Dunn has established herself as an icon in the industry.

Jourdan Dunn What Is Love?

The British beauty was first discovered back in 2006, when she was just 15 years old while shopping with a friend in a local Primark. She took to the runway for the first time in early 2007, walking for the likes of Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren.

February 2008 marked a milestone for both Jourdan and the fashion industry, as she became the first black model to walk the runway for Prada in over a decade. From here, Dunn's career exploded, as she became the new face of diversity in the modelling world. With striking looks and a background that includes Jamaican, Grenadian and Syrian descent, Jourdan’s ethnicity became a big part of her career. So much so that she has twice been named on Forbes’ list of highest-earning models, making her the first black British model to make the list.

The model’s career kept rising to new highs as she walked for the industry’s biggest designers and was part of a staggering 75 shows during the spring/summer 2008 season. In 2009, Dunn took a back seat and gave birth to her son Riley, who's now nine years old, but a mere 10 weeks after giving birth, the supermum returned to the runway just in time for London Fashion Week. This time around though, she was motivated by something – or, better yet, someone – else: Riley, who pushed her to work even harder.
