Actress Sally Dynevor talks fondly about her long-time Corrie alter ego – and why she feels she has the best job in the world
They share the same name, and actress Sally Dynevor says that after 32 years on the cobbles that’s not the only thing she and her character Sally Metcalfe have in common…
“I think I’m getting closer to Sally as I get older. We used to be poles apart, we’re now about that far apart!” she smiles, gesturing to a tiny space between her fingers.
We think she’s joking, because while on-screen Sally often rubs people up the wrong way, Sally the actress could not be more charming.
“I like Sally, but I hope my friends don’t think I’m snobby and pretentious – that would be awful,” she smiles. “I don’t have the same relationship with my husband, kids and friends as she does. She’s very bossy and I’m not bossy at all–I’m a bit of a pushover!”
Sally is the sixth longest- and serving cast member has no doubt as to what has kept her in the show for so long. “Great stories,” she says simply.
“Everybody who leaves Corrie tells you it’s like a family. I can't imagine not being here. It’s the best job in the world in so many different ways.
“Getting scripts where you pick them up and can’t wait for the next one is thrilling. I’d never get that anywhere else. And I live 20 minutes down the road –that’s another good reason.”
While Sally feels it would be tough to leave the show with her youngest child still a teenager, she says if her contract ended when she was older she would tackle the challenge with relish.
