What’s going on?” Ian asked when he came home and found his wife cutting up doilies at the table. “Have you got a job with Blue Peter?” Fran smiled.

“No, I’m making an angel. Gemma phoned earlier to say she’s coming home for Christmas after all, so I’ve got to make an angel exactly like the one we had.”

“Why?” Ian frowned as he sat down and stared at the angel she was making. “The star we bought looks fine on the tree, and Gemma isn’t going to be upset if we tell that her angel must have got thrown away. It was getting tatty anyway.”

“Yes, but she made it at primary school, and she’s always said that Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without it,” Fran said, as she started sticking pieces of doily on to the cone she’d made out of card. “The trouble is though, she’ll know that it’s not the same angel unless I dye it with tea to make it look old, and I haven’t got much time because she’s going to be here in an hour or so.”

“Really? So why’s she decided to come home after all?”
