Suzy and I were once inseparable... surely she wouldn’t forget me as she planned her next big holiday?

I have been part of Suzy’s life for around ten years now. It’s hard to put an exact date on it. We were inseparable at one time. Went everywhere together. High days and holidays. Oh yes, those holidays. I remember them well…

“I think I’ve got everything,” she murmured, counting the three most important items off on her fingers. “Passport, check. Tickets, check. Sunglasses, check.”

Unable to contain herself, she laughed gleefully as she stuffed everything into her handbag with a flourish.

That’s what I like about Suzy – her great sense of humour.

“I can’t wait to get there,” she continued, nudging me. “Just imagine it.

We’ll be sipping Pina Coladas around the pool by lunchtime.”

That was Majorca. I think it could have been our very first break together. Yes… yes it was. I remember the holiday romance. It’s all coming back to me…

Carlos! Mind you, I was never quite sure if that was his real name or if he was just stringing her along. As they do.

It was unbearable to watch when he moved on to the next assortment of incoming guests. Carlos had no shame. It didn’t matter if they were young or old. And being the lifeguard at the pool meant he had the pick of the new intake. He could strut his stuff to his heart’s content and I even caught him admiring himself on more than one occasion!
