Africa anguish FIRM CONCERNS FOR HARRY & MEGHAN

Nobody watching the emotional documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey could doubt the couple’s love, their determination to make the world a better place or their unhappiness with the pressures of royal life.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, seems especially bewildered by the constant attention, explaining, “When I first met my now husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy. But my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”

Prince Harry, who grew up with a stark example of what can happen when the media runs amok, is angry, and insists, “I will not be bullied into playing a game that killed my mum.”

The couple’s obvious vulnerability is both moving and troubling – and Tom Bradby (52), the journalist chosen to follow the couple through Africa, is worried.

“This young family, happy in themselves, is struggling to adapt to life in the spotlight,” he says. “Both of them, on this trip, came across as more vulnerable and bruised than the spoiled, petulant, arrogant and entitled caricatures that are sometimes tied to the public whipping post.”

Unfortunately for the duke and duchess, this is precisely how many commentators, both in newspapers and on social media, see them. Sympathy has been thin after the multimillion-dollar bill to taxpayers for renovating their marital home Frogmore Cottage, as well as their use of private jets while preaching about the need to tackle climate change, not to mention Meghan’s fabulously expensive designer wardrobe and her ban on anyone taking her photograph during a trip to Wimbledon this year.
