For 37 years Robert Scott has entertained Kiwis across the country, inviting listeners into his life with hilarious anecdotes about his family and a charming sense of humor. And while there’s no doubt he’s a master of his trade the 54-year-old has recently returned to his first passion of writing music, even releasing songs on streaming service Spotify!
Robert, whose drive show on The Breeze was recently announced the number-one afternoon show in the country in the latest radio survey ratings, began his music career as a love-struck teen, channeling the highs and lows of young romance into music.
“I was madly in love, out of love, being cheated on. You know, very romantic and angsty. That’s where all good love songs come from – a broken heart,” he grins.
In fact, his songs were so good that he, along with high school band The Audience, won the 1984 TVNZ Music Video Competition with a song he wrote, Am I the Walrus. It was high acclaim for the Palmerston North youth, who was thrilled when his band made the front page of the local newspaper, the Manawatu Evening Standard.
