It’s one of the most initimate and tender photos we’ve ever seen of members of the royal family, and it beautifully portrays Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s joy at the news they’re having another baby.
A romantic black-and-white shot of the couple in the garden of their home in Montecito, California, shows a pregnant Meghan lying with her head in her husband’s lap, his hand cradling her hair and her hand resting on her rounded belly. Their delight is evident in their beaming smiles.
A spokesperson for the couple said, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
The pair made sure the photo had special significance, choosing a spot in front of a large “tree of life”, as the photographer Misan Harriman describes it. It’s reminiscent of the final scene from the film Notting Hill, which shows Hugh Grant and a pregnant Julia Roberts contentedly cosying up together in a garden.
For the shoot, Meghan wore a floor-length Carolina Herrera dress, which was made for her when she was pregnant with Archie, who will turn two on May 6. Meghan has a close bond with the brand’s creative director Wes Gordon.
The couple chose to make the announcement on Valentine’s Day, 37 years to the day that Harry’s parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana revealed that they were expecting him.
