It’s crazy to think, but the air quality inside your home could be worse than it is outside. Although we tend to associate air pollution with smog-filled cities, transport emissions and industrial smokestacks, a much more subtle problem could be playing out right under your very nose.
The majority of us spend more time inside than out. Inside, everything from our flooring and furniture to our cooking and cleaning habits are a potential source of indoor air pollution – as unseen gases, fumes and small particles (known as volatile organic compounds or VOCs) are released into the air.
Our pets, our hobbies, even burning candles for relaxation, can unwittingly spell trouble for our health.
Ventilate
As much and as often as possible, open your windows and doors to allow fresh air to circulate and pollutants to escape. This is especially essential if you’re working on home renovations or craft projects using heady paints and glues.
Green spaces Indoor plants help purify the air and remove VOCs, degrade carbon dioxide and release oxygen, 24/7. A plant in every room works wonders. Try philodendron, dumb cane, yucca, Zanzibar gem and peace lily.
Check for dampness
