Sitting as close as we possibly could in the crowded bar, we whispered into one another’s ears and laughed. I could feel my face glow with happiness as Cody ordered another bottle of fizz, and Janie cosied up to me. It’d been one of those nights, spontaneous and fun, and we’d only planned to go out at the last minute.
Perched on our bar stools, just the three of us, we hadn’t stopped giggling. ‘Happy Valentine’s Day!’ I cried, popping open the prosecco and pouring it into our glasses. Then, I leant forward and kissed Cody passionately on the lips, before turning to Janie and kissing her, too. Because Cody was my boyfriend, and Janie my girlfriend, and we were out celebrating the love all three of us shared.
I’d met Cody online in February 2016, and we’d got on instantly. We were both open-minded, with a passion for travel, neither of us wanted kids – and with so much in common, we quickly became a couple, even moving in with each other after just a few months. We had the perfect relationship, and I’d never felt luckier, enjoying long walks, meals out and trips away. Best of all, unlike some of my previous boyfriends, Cody wasn’t threatened that I was bisexual and had had girlfriends in the past. So, when he suggested we date other women – together – I thought it was a great idea. Neither if us had done anything like it before, but we’d been a couple for several months, and as much as I loved Cody, and felt I had everything I needed, I enjoyed female company, too. If I could have both, why not?
Finding a third
We went on a few dates with single women we met mostly online, explaining our situation beforehand, and had lots of fun. ‘It’s the best of both worlds,’ I explained to sceptical friends.
